The well-known Sao Paulo-based Laboratory is the only audiovisual projects development laboratory in Brazil that receives projects from all regions of the country, the Latin America, the Iberian Peninsula and also from Italy. The Pop Up Film Residency BrLab Award will be chosen amongst the projects selected by BrLab that are in the development and financing phase.
Maíra Bühler
Filmmaker
Maíra Bühler is a Brazilian filmmaker who has directed four creative docu- mentaries. Her latest film, “Diz a Ela Que Me Viu Chorar” (Let It Burn, 2019), premiered at the True/False Film Festival in the United States and received the Best Film Award at the international competitive film screening Olhar de Cinema, cited by the magazine Cahiers du Cinema as one of the best fes- tivals in Brazil; the Library Prize at CinémaDu Réel; the Best Ibero-Ameri- can Film Award at the Uruguay International Film Festival; and the Special Jury Prize at the Havana Film Festival and Infinitto Film Festival. She also directed “A Vida Privada dos Hipopótamos” (I Touched All Your Stuff, 2014), which premiered at the FiD – Marseille and won the Best Editing Award at the Rio Int’l Film Festival and the Critics Award at CineCeará Festival. As a screenwriter, her last work was the feature Cidade Pássaro (Shine Your Eyes, 2020), which premiered at the Panorama screening of the Berlin Film Festival. “Wedlock” will be her first fiction feature film.
THE MARRIAGE
Freely inspired by a true story, the film narrates the journey of a young indigenous woman from the Amazon rainforest to the dangerous world of whites. She marries one of them and sees her life transformed into a great media show.
