Bio

Michelangelo Frammartino is an Italian filmmaker born in 1968 in Milan to Calabrian parents. He initially studied architecture at the Politecnico di Milano, where he explored the relationship between visual imagery, space, and materials. He later attended the Civica Scuola del Cinema in Milan, focusing on video art and installations influenced by Studio Azzurro. Frammartino’s works often bridge cinema and visual arts, with notable projects like Casa delle belle addormentate (inspired by Yasunari Kawabata’s novel) and Alberi, a cinematic installation showcased at MoMA PS1 in New York. His feature films include Il Dono (2003), a low-budget project shot in Calabria, and Le quattro volte (2010), a meditative exploration of existence that won the Europa Cinemas Label at Cannes and sold to over 40 countries. His most recent film, Il Buco (2021), premiered at the Venice Film Festival, where it won the Special Jury Prize
