Pop Up Film Residency Bratislava is a film residency and mentorship program based in Bratislava. The program offers an exclusive opportunity to share experiences with residents from around the world and to consult film projects in development with internationally acclaimed industry experts. Six selected Slovak participants will benefit from meeting and networking with international Pop Up Film Residents and their mentors, as well as from developing their project in a unique creative environment.

The residency will take place from 19th August until 9th September, 2024. During these three weeks, selected Slovak Pop Up participants will meet, network and exchange feedback, support and ideas with international Pop Up participants.

This year, Pop Up Bratislava welcomes a group of stellar renowned filmmakers from Zimbabwe (Tapiwa Chipfupa, writer and director), Poland (Agata Wieczorek, director & Adrianna Redzia, producer) and Egypt (Randa Ali, director & Menna Taher, screenwriter). At the same time, Slovak projects will benefit from individual consultations with international mentors, who will dedicate their time to discuss each project individually and give a thorough feedback and support according to the specific challenges of each film.

These consultations will likely take place on 21st August – 24th August, 2024. Exact dates will be scheduled according to the needs of each project and the availability of mentors. All international and Slovak projects will be presented publicly in a friendly and supportive atmosphere at an event taking place on 6th September, 2024.

There is no participation fee for the program.

WHO CAN APPLY?

The Slovak Pop Up is open for Slovak film projects (fiction, documentary & animation) in any stage of development.

The program is open for filmmakers working on their first feature project but it also welcomes more experienced filmmakers.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

In partnership with renowned international film industry programs and production forums (Jihlava Emerging Producers, When East Meets West, Doha Film Institute, The Alternativa Film Project and Aflamuna co-production platform), the Pop Up Film Residency Bratislava selects and hosts filmmakers from around the world who spend 3 weeks in Bratislava developing their projects. The Slovak Pop Up selects local filmmakers who are partnered with the international resident and their mentor. Together they can exchange ideas, experiences and feedback.

Pop Up Film Residency is a tailor-made program that doesn’t work on preset schedules and preselected mentors. Both are set to fit the project and the resident. This year-round program uses an individual approach – only one international project at a time. You can browse the past Pop Up mentors here: www.popupfilmresidency.org/mentors
